Kelly McCarthy

Experience:
Kelly graduated from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelors of Science in Sociology. During her four years at West Point she rowed for the Women’s Army Crew team, developing her abilities as a leader and team builder on the scenic Hudson River. Upon graduation, Kelly commissioned into the Army as an Aviation Officer and was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama for initial rotary wing training. She then served in the 1st Infantry Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade as a UH-60M Blackhawk helicopter pilot. Kelly led soldiers during combat operations in Afghanistan, flying as a Pilot in Command and Air Mission Commander during various missions in support of U.S. and coalition ground forces. Kelly completed the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia and then served as the Brigade Aviation Officer for the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Fort Bliss, Texas. Before transitioning from the Army, Kelly served on the 1st Armored Division General Staff as the Division Commander’s speechwriter and later as the Chief of Protocol where she oversaw engagements with senior political and military leaders as well as strengthened community ties with the city of El Paso. She received formal protocol training at the Protocol School of Washington, with a focus on leadership, diplomacy, and corporate etiquette.

Scholarly Work/Publications/Awards:
Kelly’s military awards include an Air Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals.

Kelly is married to Major Steve McCarthy, also a graduate of West Point. With their two small children, they love creating adventures as a family.
