Joe began his Army career in 1990 as an enlisted Russian Interrogator before earning an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1996 as a Military Intelligence officer. Over the course of a 27-year Army career, Joe led intelligence organizations supporting infantry, cavalry, aviation, and special operations forces in the United States and overseas. His leadership assignments included combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, intelligence and counter-narcotics operations throughout Central and South America, and advising partner military forces during combat operations. Across these roles, he developed expertise in leading teams through uncertainty, making high-consequence decisions with incomplete information, and building trust across diverse organizations. Joe’s passion for leadership development extended beyond operational assignments. He served as Professor of Military Science at the University of Toledo, where he taught leadership and mentored future Army officers. As a Military Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and advisor to Lincoln Laboratory, he studied strategic leadership while helping research human performance optimization for military organizations. Joe concluded his Army career commanding the 6th ROTC Brigade, where he led more than 350 military, civilian, and contractor professionals responsible for developing approximately 800 Army officers each year across 60 universities in five states and two U.S. territories. Today, Joe helps leaders at every level translate leadership principles into practical action. Drawing on decades of experience leading organizations in combat, academia, and large, geographically dispersed enterprises, he teaches decision-making under pressure, leader development, organizational culture, and building teams capable of thriving in complex environments. His presentations combine real-world experience, research-backed insights, and practical tools that audiences can immediately apply within their own organizations.
