Thayer Leadership Commemorates 16 Years of Transforming Leaders at Boston Retreat
By: Thayer Leadership"Great leadership is built through shared experiences, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to continuous growth."
The Thayer Leadership team gathered in Boston, Massachusetts, for its annual company meeting and to celebrate 16 years of developing leaders of character. Rooted in the belief that great leadership is built through shared experiences, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to continuous growth, the event brought team members together to strengthen connections, exchange ideas, and align around a common purpose.
In an increasingly hybrid work environment, the opportunity to meet in person reinforced the value of collaboration, trust, and learning from one another. The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on the organization’s growth and continued commitment to helping leaders and organizations achieve lasting impact.

As part of the program, faculty member Major General (Ret.) Bill Rapp, Ph.D., led the team on a Leadership Guided Experience that explored the events, decisions, and leadership challenges that shaped the early American Revolution. Through guided discussions at historic sites outside Boston at Lexington and Concord, the Thayer team examined leadership lessons from both the Continental and British Armies, exploring how leaders responded to uncertainty, built trust, and influenced outcomes during a pivotal moment in history. The team also reflected on how a series of small decisions helped set the course for a conflict that would ultimately shape a nation. The experience served as a powerful reminder that leadership matters, and that the choices leaders make today can have lasting consequences tomorrow.

The Thayer Leadership team also participated in an Urban Orienteering experience throughout Boston Common and the surrounding historic city center, further highlighting the importance of teamwork, communication, adaptability, and shared purpose. This immersive experiential program, which is also offered to Thayer Leadership clients, blends collaboration, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and exploration of Boston’s rich history. Through team-based challenges and guided discovery, participants strengthened relationships, sharpened leadership skills, and experienced firsthand how trust, coordination, and effective decision-making drive success in dynamic environments.

As one of America’s historic birthplaces, Boston provided a powerful backdrop for reflection on the enduring principles of effective leadership.
The experience served as a reminder that great leadership begins with shared values and a commitment to something greater than oneself, and that the choices leaders make today can have a lasting impact on the future.
