Upon graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Carlys served in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence and Air Defense Artillery officer. She is a veteran of the Global War on Terror and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Since serving in the military, Carlys has dedicated herself as a human resource professional, an attorney, and in her volunteer leadership roles for various non-profits and civic organizations. While pursuing her Juris Doctorate at Rutgers Law School, Carly continued to work as a Human Resources Consultant, served as an Editor on the Rutgers Law Review, and also interned at the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, and in the Clerk’s Office of the United States Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. She mediated disputes for the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety, Division of Consumer Affairs, and has worked at the Center for the Army Profession and Ethic (CAPE) as a doctrine writer and research analyst.
Carlys currently manages The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point as the Director of Operations (General Manager).
She enjoys volunteering and has twice earned the U.S. Army Commander’s Award for Public Service for her roles in Army communities where she has lived with her family. Carlys supported and provided resources for Army families when she volunteered as a Family Readiness Group Leader for three Army units at various Army stations around the country. She volunteers at local schools and has coached several baseball and soccer teams for the YMCA, the Cranford Soccer Club, and for the West Point Youth Services Sports program.
