Thayer Leader Development Group Hosts 2nd Annual Veterans’ Support Symposium on Veteran’s DayThursday, November 10, 2016
WEST POINT, NY, Nov. 10, 2016 (BUSINESS WIRE) – The Thayer Leader Development Group at West Point (TLDG) culminates their 2016 Veterans’ Initiative program by hosting their 2nd annual Veterans’ Support Symposium on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2016, at Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City. The objective is to learn and share best practices from Chief Executive Officers and the United States Army about how organizations in America can better support veterans and their families. In partnership with the Association for Talent Development, TLDG’s Veterans’ Initiative program kicked off this year with a special supplement of the September issue of TD Magazine sharing best practices from organizations that are trailblazers in recruiting, developing, and supporting veterans and active duty military. This special issue is available at www.td.org/veterans. TLDG identified 13 categories of support that companies can provide to veterans and their families, encouraging all companies to adopt or enhance their Veterans’ Initiatives and to share them using #vetsdayceochallenge.
The symposium will integrate panel discussions and speakers who will reveal the incredible value of veterans in the workplace, including how military leadership lessons translate to the corporate sector and how organizations can creatively support veterans and their families. Brigadier General (retired) Rebecca “Becky” Halstead will provide a keynote address about veterans’ value to any organization. Under Secretary of the Army, the Honorable Patrick Murphy, will conclude the symposium with a discussion about the U.S. Army’s “Soldier for Life” program.
"We at TLDG are committed to hiring veterans and their families as valued faculty and staff members, teaching military principles of leadership to thousands of corporate executives, and organizing special events that honor veterans and support veterans,” stated Dan Rice, President of TLDG. "We challenge every organization in America to ask themselves what they are doing to support veterans and to advance their efforts and to post their Veterans’ Initiatives on their websites."
TLDG will also host the Nasdaq Opening and Closing Bells on Veteran’s Day. The Honorable Patrick Murphy will ring the Closing Bell flanked by the U.S. Army’s Jumpmaster and Paratrooper of the Year from the 82nd Airborne Division. The symposium and Closing Bell will be streamed live on Facebook.
