After graduating from DePauw University in Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Summer started her career in Communications as a writer for a TV news station and eventually a Deputy Press Secretary for a state elected official. She has worked as a writer and editor for a university, a military contractor, and has also worked as a freelance writer. She started working for Thayer Leadership in 2021 with the in-person experientials team. She continues to work with the experiential team while also working as an Online Guide and digital learning coordinator for online courses.

She has been married to her husband who is an active-duty Army officer for almost 20 years. They have moved to multiple duty stations, including North Carolina, Kansas, England, Virginia, Kentucky, Spain, Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington. Throughout her time as a military spouse, she has found that serving alongside the soldiers and families has given her an immense amount of pride and purpose. She has served as a Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG) Leader and as a Senior Advisor to an SFRG. Summer has a 13-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son who keeps her busy. She enjoys running and reading in her free time.
